North Central RC&D

The North Central RC&D (Resource Conservation and Development) is a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit organization and is unique in the fact that it is led by a local volunteer council.  This council is made up of respresentatives from 26 communities, 6 counties (Boyd, Brown, Cherry, Holt, Keya Paha & Rock), 5 Natural Resources Districts and local Chambers of commerce that help care for and protect their natural resources in a way that improves the local economy, environment and standard of living.  The purpose of the RC&D is to promote conservation, development and utilization of natural resources.  Grant writing assistance & knowledge of available grants is provided through the RC&D offiice. Monthy meetings are held at the North Central RC&D office the 1st Wednesday of the month.  The annual meeting is held in September.

Rock County Hospital

Bassett and the surrounding area are served by the Rock County Hospital.  The hospital is owned by Rock County and is under the direction of a five-member board of trustees.  The hospital facility is composed of three types of care:  Acute care, Long Term Care and a Physician’s Clinic.  The Rock County Hospital has a working partnership with Good Samaritan Health Systems in Kearney, NE.  The Rock County Hospital is a part of the statewide telehealth system that allows direct audio-visual connectivity to anywhere in Nebraska.

The Hospital, Clinic and Long Term Care employ 85 persons making it the largest employer in Rock County.  The annual budget is over $5.3 million with an annual payroll in excess of $1.5 million.

The acute care facility was constructed in 1961 with a major remodel completed in 2008.  The hospital is licensed for 17 acute care beds.  Services within the hospital include a 24/7 Emergency Room, coronary care, Laboratory and Radiology.  Mobile services include mammography, ultrasound, MRI and dexa scan.  An on-site CAT scan unit was added in August 2008.  The acute care facility is licensed by the State of Nebraska and is certified by the Medicare and Medicaid programs.  It was qualified as a critical access hospital in July 2000. 
Outreach clinics include cardiology, surgery/endoscopy and ENT. 

The Long Term Care unit was completed in 1991.  There are 15 semi-private rooms which are private pay and Medicaid approved.  The unit provides both short and long term convalescent care. 

The Rock County Clinic is fully equipped and staffed with experienced staff.  The clinic staff consists of physicians, mid-level providers including nurse practitioners and nursing and office personnel.  Also housed in the clinic facility are dental and optometry services.

Rock County Public Library - "More Than Just Books"

The public library contains over 18,000 library materials and over 30,000 reference e-books.  The collection includes audio books, videos, e-books, magazines, newspapers and books.  Bookmobile service is provided to rural schools and neighboring small towns.  Twelve public access computers are available.

Second Chance Thrift Shop

The Rock County Hospital Auxiliary opened the 2nd Chance Thrift Shop on main street in the spring of 2002.  It is open 6 days a week and staffed completely by volunteers.  All items for sale in the shop are donated from the community.  Since their opening the thrift store has funded numerous projects at the Rock County Hospital including a food serving cart for dietary, conference room chairs, tables for the long term care dining rooms and flat screen TVs for hospital patient rooms.  The auxiliary also pays for the routine maintenance on the aviary in long term care.  In the last year alone almost $20,000 in thrift store proceeds has been donated to the hospital by the auxiliary.
